In 2023, as a finals school project, I wanted to do something I had never done before. I wanted to challenge myself, see how much I could get done in a year. I decided I wanted to write a symphony, without any prior experience. This was a truly amazing project and I have been composing ever since. To accomplish this I have studied scores, watched analyses, learned how to organise a performance and I have researched what a symphony actually is and what it entails. I challenged myself with different atmospheres, tempos, dynamics and range of instruments, and I tried to contrast the four movements as much as possible. The final result, Harmony's Journey, reflects this process. It was the journey that brought me so much and shaped my future plans.
As I mentioned before, I haven't stopped composing ever since. I wrote a few serenades that are listed below including Ondeggiando l'Amore, a serenade written for my girlfriend for Valentine's Day. I wanted to familiarise myself with all of the instruments and ways to use them. In the meantime I'm working my next symphony called The Journey Continues, for full symphony orchestra. I have also been asked by a starting film studio to compose music, which I picked up immediately. I enjoy writing orchestral pieces, in a kind of blend between romantic and cinematic music. In 2025 I've started my study Classical Composing, and Classical Violin, in the Netherlands.
Here is a collection of all published works with score and some details. You can also find me on Spotify.
2025:
“Ondeggiando l’amore”
Serenade for Strings, Harp and Horn
This is my most recent released composition and I feel it reflects my style more. It is more complex, dramatic and makes bigger contrasts. I took a lot of time writing this, and am happy with the result.
The piece uses primarily strings, with the harp and horn as solo. The beginning is a really long build-up towards a climax where the horn enters for the first time.
It's my most expressive piece and I really want to write more of this. The piece represents the continuous movement of waves.
2024:
“Le Farfalle dell'Anno”
Serenade for Orchestra and Harp
I wrote this short serenade for my girlfriend to celebrate a year long relationship! It is written for orchestra and harp. I've been writing a lot lately, this is just one of the concepts that I have completely worked out. But there are a few more planned. Of course, just like in the previous piece, I gave the harp a big role in this piece.
What I liked about this piece is that I can let the winds play an increasingly bigger role. I am learning more and more how to write for them, for example the opening with the horns and the clarinet and also the bassoon later. I tried to create an atmosphere in this piece that felt both suitable as a romantic piece and as a celebration.
Le Farfalle dell'Anno is Italian for "The butterflies of the year".
“Il Pinguino Innamorato”
Serenade for Strings, Harp and Piccolo
ᅠThis serenade is written for strings, harp and piccolo. Lately I have been experimenting a lot with using and discovering new instruments, in order to gain more experience and further expand my knowledge. I am happy with this piece, especially with the atmosphere I was able to achieve with it. It was difficult to write a lighter and more intimate piece because I find myself wanting to write very heavy and dramatic. But through instrumentation and use of instruments the atmosphere is the way I wanted to achieve.
I tried to create a lot of contrast between the orchestra and the solo. The big and the small. And I tried used a lot of repetitions with variety, to keep it interesting. These are a few techniques that I have been working on for the first time and try to pay attention to.
Il Pinguino Innamorato is Italian for "The Penguin in Love".
“Harmony's Journey”
Symphony for Strings No.1
I The Journey Begins
II Betrayal
III The March
IV To Rule Again
ᅠAs told above, I wrote and performed this 4-part symphony for strings in 2024. I wrote this in the last year of the Waldorf School in Zutphen, for my profile paper. I had never written anything before and I've learned incredibly much. I have;
learning to write and work out music for an orchestra with live musicians
done extensive researched about a symphony and what it entails
learn to conduct and lead the orchestra in rehearsals
organising the performance (hall, cameras, audience, flyers, etc.)
The first symphony I ever wrote, at age 17. I challenged myself with different atmospheres, tempos, dynamics and range of instruments, and I tried to contrast the 4 parts as much as possible. I have done all of this in about a year and I am very proud of the final result. And I knew that this was only the beginning of my journey.
